CLAP ALONG IF YOU KNOW YOU DO NOT NEED TO FEAR
Hello Friends!
I wanted to send a quick hello to tell you how much I miss you, and how much I look forward to doing a Bible Study with you, once we get the all clear to meet in groups again. This virus has really put a damper on a lot of our plans, but I am often reminded of Isaiah 55 which tells us that God’s thoughts are not our thoughts and His ways are not our ways. He is sovereign over all things, and we need to be in humble submission to him. This means that sometimes our plans get thwarted, but His always better.
There has been quite a lot of fear being spread in regards to this virus, and while it is right to be concerned and to take care of ourselves and those around us to help stop the spread, we as Christians need to be careful that we aren’t filled with fear, and therefore spreading fear to those around us.
I have been helping Joelle work on a project for her music class where she had to take a popular song and change the lyrics to be COVID related. She chose the song ‘Happy’ by Pharrell Williams (Side note- if you need a good pick me up today, google it!) Anyways, she changed some of the lyrics of the chorus to say:
“CLAP ALONG IF YOU KNOW YOU DO NOT NEED TO FEAR,
CLAP ALONG IF YOU KNOW GOD’S GOT THIS ALL UNDER CONTROL”
It serves as a reminder of 2 Timothy 1:7 which tells us that ‘we have not been given a spirit of fear, but of power and love and a sound mind.’ So while this pandemic is causing craziness and fear, we Christians do not need to be filled with fear.
Isaiah 41:10 reminds us to ‘not fear or be dismayed Because God is with us. He strengthens us and will help us. He will uphold us with righteous right hand.’
God has not abandoned us. He is still at work. We still have a job to do, He is with us and he strengthens us to do what he has called us to do in a world of fear.
In John 16:33 Jesus reminds us that ‘we will encounter trouble in this world; but to take heart because he has overcome the world.’
This virus is just one more thing that reminds us of the broken world we live in. But we know that Jesus has already conquered the world and that we as Christians have hope for future glory.
So in a time of fear and chaos, be reminded that as Christians we have not been given a spirit of fear. He is with us, he strengthens us and he upholds us. He has already conquered the world, and we have hope that one day we will live in a perfect eternity with no brokenness.
