Christus Victor (Amen) | Revelation 19:1
Do you live like our God is already victorious? I must admit that most often I live defeated. The ongoing fight against sin and the frailty of our lives can often make us quickly forget that in Christ we live victoriously because God is ultimately victorious over sin, death and Satan.
This is what Christus Victor describes. Latin for the phrase âChrist the Victorâ, reflects the language of the New Testament in how God has victory over Satan and evil through what Christ accomplished on the cross, atoning for sinners. The joy as a follower of Christ is that we have victory now, as we long for the return of Christ and complete glorification when all things are made new!
The newly written song âChristus Victor (Amen)â by Keith and Kristyn Getty sings of these truth, the past present and future victory through Christ the Son of God. Reflecting on the Israelites who were lead out of Egypt, it points to Christâs greater exodus as the only begotten sonâs, the spotless lambâs blood was shed, brings about the freedom of Godâs people. Through his perfect life, his atoning death, his miraculous resurrection, and his glorious ascension, we look ahead to the time of Revelation. All sin, death, and evil will be destroyed forever and we will join as one with creation singing Hallelujah! Amen! To the victorious Son and Lamb of God!
âAfter this I heard what seemed to be the loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, crying out,
âHallelujah!â¨Salvation and glory and power belong to our GodâŚââ
Revelation 19:1
Do you live like our God is already victorious? We as followers of Christ ought not to live as though defeated. Our God has already won!
